minty, pale & golden

medium deep bowls in mint, lotus and straw

So its been a while since I have actually shown anything ceramic, hasn't it? The last couple of months the work was flying out of the kiln and straight into boxes and was being shipped off to far away places before I even had time to get to know my own creations. My children left without as much as letting me button their coats. Luckily they went off to warm and safe homes where they are loved and very appreciated. The above three went to a new store that just opened up in Napa Valley, called Fete. I scrambled to get the work finished in time for their store opening and there was a moment when I did not think it would happen. Luckily the fates (no pun intended) were with me and I had a number of pieces for the store that I was quite proud of. It was a nice contrast to the sense of constant disappointment that I felt I was creating by not having things to the stores when I promised. In the end I got most things done with the exception of one special order that I am on the third round of remaking because the plates keep peeling. So what is a girl to do? I did my best. I worked hard. Really hard. Besides there is January. Sweet slow sleepy January. I am using this time to catch up on all the things that did not get done before the holidays but at a more reasonable pace. Thank god for January!

dog :: wood

dogwood bowl 8.5" x 8.5" x 4"

I am back in San Francisco after a very long journey home which included one missed flight, four airports, three airplanes and one night sleeping in JFK airport in the Bon au Pan cafe, upright in a chair with my head laying on top of a table with my canvas carry on bag as a pillow. ( I hope no one saw me drooling, heh, heh). I woke up with creases on my face from my canvas bag , oh what a lovely sight I must of been... but now I am safe and sound in lovely breezy San Francisco, rejuvenated from my incredible holiday. Thank you for all your comments while I was away. I really wanted to share more with you about the island and other artists I met while I was there, but well you know, I was on vacation and having fun and relaxing was my priority.

So I am home and have this lovely dogwood bowl for sale (sold) which I finished before I left. It is a larger bowl 8.5" x 8.5" x 4" with ice blue and ivory on the outside and a gorgeous, spring inspired chartreuse interior. The cost is $140 which does not include shipping . If you are interested in it please email me at diana@dianafayt.com . I will be posting some tea bowls for sale as well as another surprise item which I can't wait to share with you.

As for inspiration my head is brimming with ideas and you just may be seeing some new boat imagery sometime soon and maybe some tropical flowers. For now though, it is all about the dogwood.

my heart is singing

Orange with dogwood flowers & red interior 10.5"x10.5"x5"
It is time for me to take a little break to recharge and reconnect with my sweetheart. I leave you with this most recent lovely that I pulled out of my kiln the day before yesterday. Very rarely do I feel like I have made the perfect bowl...this is one of those rare moments of feeling. The red is so deep and gem like, the yellow dogwood flowers have a delicate crackle to them and the orange just makes my heart sing. I hope it will do the same for you.

I will be gone for the next few weeks but plan on popping in with some vacation updates from this lovely place. So keep checking back.
