pin vase available in my shop
Whoa, I hadn't intended to be away so long. Well I did manage to take my own advice and slow down a little. The result...I am enjoying myself and feeling a little less stressed. Taking breaks is important. And you know what, it was all still there waiting for me when I came back.
I wanted to mention that I will be teaching workshop at Heath Ceramics on June 21st & 28th. I absolutely love teaching at Heath. It really is as wonderful there (and so are all the folks who work there) as everyone says it is. If you are interested in more information about the workshop have a look here. Also Heath hosts a series of workshops throughout the summer so check them all out. There are few I'd like to take myself. Also while I was away Jan over at poppytalk hosted a little sneak peak of my home along with a Q & A so if you are feeling a little voyeuristic hop on over and have a peek.
Thanks Jan!
There's more to tell but I don't want to bore you all with it now.
I'll be back soon.
P.S. I just put a whole bunch of new vases (canteens, pin vases and cylinder vases) in my shop.

for sale here
They have arrived friends, my new small vases!
My new vase molds were delivered a couple of weeks ago and since then I have become a vase making obsessed fiend! I made this grouping of small vases inspired by my dear friend Lisa Congdon, her love of yellow and this photo she took of her golden hued goodies. Hard pressed to break up the happy family of vases (they really do belong together don't they!?) I am selling the whole shebang as one piece. The money made from the sale will be passed onto my beloved sister to help her and her family get back on track.
Putting a little sunshine into someones life....Now isn't that what yellow is all about?
Also I have a featured studio visit on Design*Sponge via Jan of Poppytalk. Hop on over and have a look, there is a little interview too! Thanks Jan & Grace!!
After a very long hiatus my canteen vases are finally back! I was separated from my molds all of last year and since I have been back in San Francisco all of my attempts to get these guys done have been ill fated (er, no pun intended). So they have returned...The lovely, curvaceous, two sided canteen vase. These sweeties are soon to be sent to a very special store in Los Angeles called Show.
canteen vases red & ice blue
In the studio, I am having a bit of problem with my glazes crawling and underglazes peeling. I am coming to the conclusion that I might be working with an inferior product and that it is not remediable. Or it is just my greasy little fingers contaminating the surfaces...most likely not the latter as I am constantly washing my hands. I have had a lot of losses lately which really frustrates me (and the people who are waiting on orders).
8oz cups, gray green, orange & natural
The good news is that I do have some more of these guys for sale. New colors too! These are a little smaller than the last cups I posted, 8oz and they have a lovely sprig flower on them. I have a handful of them available in flame orange, gray green(sold), and natural (sold) and they are $30. Pop me an email at diana@dianafayt.com if you would like one.
There are still a few orange ones left!
For some weekend fun check out the adventures of the little people of Sandwich Mountain. (ahhh, the the great minds of ceramic artists!)
A late breaking (but not too late) tidbit. My friend and fellow potter, Ayumi has some gorgeous work for sale at Akar. Check it out here! One of each for me please! Love, love, love, what Ayumi does!
Look at this group of vases! Kind of like a bowling alley of vases (alas the name pin vases). I am sending the green and blue one (in the way back) off to a store in Austin, Texas called Finch along with some bowls and plates. The other four are available for sale! The white & ivory (sold) in front, the teal & ivory to the middle left, the red standing behind and the yellow in the way back. I had intended to have individual photos of the ones for sale but they turned out quite dark. If you are interested in one these for your spring blooms (they are all water tight and hold the perfect amount of flowers) pop me an email at diana@dianafayt.com
pin vases 13.5" x 3.5" $170 each
The day before yesterday was a test. It was a wet rainy day and I set out to go to the local packing store to purchase an inordinate amount of packing peanuts, boxes and bubble wrap. After making my purchases and nearly fainting from the cost of everything I embarked on the next task, which was to get all of the stuff I bought into my Jetta. With deft skill and acumen (after many attempts) I managed to squeeze it all in without an inch to spare, not to mention windows to see out of. I jumped into the car, soggy and wet, proud but a little overwhelmed from the experience, only to realize that if I were to drive my car like this I just might cause an accident. My better half took over; I quickly reassessed the situation and decided to trade my twenty-four inch wide bubble wrap in for a smaller more manageable 12” wide bubble wrap. Back in the car, with windows to see out of I drove off, in the rain, towards my studio. Then came the schleping of it all into my studio, which requires loading everything into a freight elevator and hauling it down a long hallway. Once inside my dry studio I set out to start packing up all of my orders. I was happily wrapping things in bubble wrap, fortifying it with corrugated cardboard (a new trick that I learned from the lovely Whitney and Sara). All of a sudden I hear a crash, not a good sound in a ceramic studio. I turn around and a piece of cardboard that I had propped against the wall had fallen over taking one of my vases with it. This was not good. My vases have been in short supply and I can’t afford losses like these. I lifted the cardboard to evaluate the damage underneath and yup, the vase was broken. Resigned to the catastrophe, I picked up the shards one by one and then accidentally I grazed my finger over a piece of the broken vase and sliced it open. Sliced sounds so dramatic, doesn’t it? It was not a bad cut but the kind that bleeds profusely. So profusely that I got blood all over the bubble wrap. Yuk, what a mess! Once the wound was washed and covered with a band-aid (and my mess cleaned up), I continued on with my packing only to run out of tape mid way . I knew then it was time to go home. So I did.
